Biosurface and imaging mass spectrometry

Our group works on developing analytical tools for the detection, characterization, and quantification of small molecules in biological fluids, thin tissue sections, and cells, using mass spectrometry. Our main focus is imaging mass spectrometry and surface analysis, where we try to develop techniques to detect spatial differences in the presence of different molecules on biological surfaces such as thin tissue sections. We are also developing mass spectrometric techniques for chemical analysis of individual cells with the aim of being able to distinguish between diseased and healthy cells in the future.
