Termination of employment

These pages contain information on the termination of your employment at Uppsala University.

If you wish to resign, you must inform your manager and then submit Termination at your own request [Uppsägning på egen begäran (7.0.1)] in writing for the termination to be valid (10 § The Public Employment Act [Lag (1994:260) om offentlig anställning, LOA]. Termination at your own request [Uppsägning på egen begäran (7.0.1)] is submitted to HR at your department.

If you want to terminate your employment with the intention of retiring, you need to contact The National Government Employee Pensions Board (SPV).

If you have the intention to resign during a leave of absence, you must notify the employer at least as far in advance as your period of notice.

When resigning, you must abide by the following periods of notice in accordance with Conditional Agreement/Conditional Agreement-T:

The above mentioned times apply both to contracts of indeterminate length and fixed-term employments (until further notice, up to a certain date).

The employer may approve a shorter period of notice for the employee than the one stated above.

You are obliged to resign at the turn of the month of your 68th birthday. Conditional Agreement/Conditional Agreement-T

If you find employment at another government agency, you must give notice unless you have received permission to take a leave of absence for another position.

The local management of Uppsala University

If you are part of Uppsala University’s local management and wish to resign, a mutual period of notice of six months applies. The Vice-Chancellor or University Director may approve a shorter period of notice upon request.

When you are employed on a fixed-term contract, your employment will terminate at a fixed date without any notice. You will receive a notification from your department at least a month before the date on which your employment will terminate. This applies if you have been employed at Uppsala University for more than 12 months during the past 3 years or in special term-fixed employment [särskild visstidsanställning, SÄVA] for more than 9 months during the past 3 years.

If you have been employed at Uppsala University for more than 12 months during the past 3 years or in special fixed-term employment [särskild visstidsanställning, SÄVA] for more than 9 months during the past 3 years, you may request priority for reemployment.

When you have a probationary employment according to 6 § The Employment Protection Act (1982:80) [Lag (1982:80) om anställningsskydd, LAS], the employment can be terminated by both you and the employer.

  • If you want to terminate the probationary employment, there is no period of notice. You can leave any day you wish, although not retrospectively. You submit a written form, Termination at your own request [Uppsägning på egen begäran (7.0.1)].
  • If the employer intends to terminate your probationary employment, you will be formally told at least 14 days before the employment’s termination. You will also receive a notice no later than on the day your employment is terminated.

Your permanent employment may be terminated through an employer decision.

If you have a permanent position, your employment will be terminated at the end of the month during which you become 69 years old at the earliest. This applies provided you have not previously notified your employer that you will take retirement with pension.

The National Government Employee Pensions Board (SPV) will contact you c. 7 months before you become 69 years old to provide information on what you should do before retiring with pension.
