Risk analysis
When planning practical work, you should carry out a risk analysis. It is particularly important in laboratory work, as hazardous chemicals and equipment are often present, which can pose a risk when handled.
As a laboratory technician, you may have to perform risk analyses before laboratory work during the programme. In short, this means that you:
- Identify the chemicals, equipment and practical steps that may pose a risk
- Assess which are the most critical, i.e. which are most likely to occur and which may have the most severe consequences
- Determine how to reduce the risk of injury (by using the correct protective equipment, etc.).
