Self-assessment

Self-assessment is made possible by feedback from teachers and fellow students and by using checklists.

Self-awareness and self-assessment help you to acquire new knowledge and experiences that develop your skills and abilities for a professional life.

As a licensed pharmacist or prescriptionist, you are personally responsible for the fulfilment of your tasks in healthcare following science and proven experience. The main purpose of the licence is to ensure patient safety. That means that you have a personal responsibility to stay updated in the profession even after the end of your training.

Consequently, licensed professionals must have good self-awareness, learn to identify their need for further knowledge, and continuously develop their competence (see programme objectives for the Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy programmes). This is not unique to pharmacists or prescribers but is expected of modern professionals in most sectors today.

In the programmes, you have continuous opportunities to practice evaluating and reflecting on where you are in terms of knowledge and skills, what you have learned and what you need to develop through so-called self-assessments.

A few words about self-assessments

Feedback from teachers or fellow students, or your own feedback through checklists in connection with assignments and exercises, are tools aimed at stimulating reflection in you as a student. Through self-awareness and self-assessment, you will find it easier to absorb new knowledge and experiences that develop your skills and abilities for a professional life.

Take a moment to reflect on what you did in the exercise. What did you succeed in doing? What would you like to improve for next time? What should you think about for the next time? How will the lessons learnt be useful in your professional life? Articulating this for yourself will help you manage your own development. Remember to be honest with yourself. Self-assessment is for you and no one else.
