Why laboratory work?

Laboratory work is a vital part of your professional training for the pharmacy or prescriptionist profession and helps to develop a scientific approach. Laboratory sessions in education are central to understanding the scientific basis on which pharmacy subjects are built.

Laboratory work also provides skills that are very useful in your future profession. In the labs, you will practice planning and organisation of your work, documentation, analysis and plausibility assessment of data, use of mathematical and statistical tools, collaboration, and written and oral presentation and discussion.

Most terms of the Master of Science in Pharmacy programme include practical laboratory sessions. They progressively increase complexity to prepare you as a pharmacy student to carry out an individual, autonomous in-depth project in term 9 of the programme, followed by practice and profession.

The PUFF guide to laboratory work describes the skills practised in laboratory sessions. By being aware of these and reflecting on how you develop your skills, you will be well-prepared for professional life. You will use the contents of the guide throughout your programme. Some parts you will return to during several courses.
