Activate MFA for your Microsoft account using your mobile phone
To set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) using this method, you need the following:
- a computer with internet access
- a mobile phone with an app store
You will install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and connect the app to your Microsoft account at Uppsala University.
To enable MFA, follow the steps below:
Step 1
Start by downloading the "Microsoft Authenticator" app via the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Make sure Microsoft Corporation is the publisher behind the app.
Step 3
In the Microsoft login window, enter your university e-mail address and click "Next."
Step 4
In the joint web login window, enter your university ID and password A and then click "Log in".
Step 5
When you sign in to Microsoft 365, you will be prompted to enable multi-factor authentication. Click "Next."
Step 6
Here you will be instructed to install Microsoft Authenticator. Since you have already installed the app during "step 1", click "Next" and continue on the Authenticator app on the mobile.
Step 7
Open the mobile app and click "+" or "Add Account."
Step 8
Select "Work or school account."
Step 9
Select "Scan QR code" and allow the app to access the camera.
Step 10
Now scan the QR code on the computer screen and then click "Next."
Step 11
The next step is to test your installation. Enter the number that appears on the computer screen of your mobile phone in your computer web browser and click "Yes" to confirm.
Step 12
When you see this message, the installation works. Select "Next" to complete the setup.
Step 13
You are now done activating your Microsoft 365 MFA.
