Content

This full-day workshop in English, held in person on campus, examines the ways in which culture affects communication, usually without us being conscious of it. Whether we are foreigners living in Sweden or Swedes dealing with colleagues or students from other countries, we all engage in intercultural communication on a regular basis. This workshop will help you to understand the different values taught by different cultures, how these values affect the expectations we all have when we communicate with others, and how differences in expectations can lead to miscommunication or conflict.

Through a series of presentations, exercises and discussions, you will consider the implicit assumptions that you make when you speak or write to people, what differing assumptions others may make, and how to reduce the chances of miscommunication. The goal is for you to leave the workshop equipped with knowledge and tools that will help you communicate more effectively with a wider range of people.
