Service description – Backup

What is included in the Backup service?

University IT Services provides a backup service based on the concept of self-service, where as the requester, you take responsibility for the configuration and set-up of the backup and restore processes.

It is operated in two data centres to ensure an uninterrupted and secure environment with high availability. UIT is responsible for monitoring and logging the platform.

The client software to manage the backup process is available for the most common platforms (Windows, Unix, Apple/Mac). Backups can be made of entire systems, parts of systems and individual files. As the requester, you have full control over both the backup and the restore process. The backup sessions can be automatic or started manually.

The restore service is available 24 hours a day. Normally, the last 24 hours of data are stored in a disk pool, which provides very fast restore. All data are stored twice in geographically separated centres in order to protect against data loss in the event of technical problems.

All Uppsala University security rules and regulations apply both to you as the requester and to UIT.

What is NOT included?

The IT department provides the platform itself. As the requester, you are responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the backup and restore processes. A configuration guide is available for this. Configuration assistance is not normally included in the service, but if you have any doubts or questions, please contact IT support for assistance.

Automatic (scheduled) backup can be selected. Several options can be selected when configuring and using the service. Reference to the configuration guide.

Delivery time is normally within 8 hours, i.e. one working day.

Fault reports must be sent to IT support.

The agreement is for an indefinite period, unless otherwise stated. The requester may terminate the service at any time. The period if notice is one calendar month. This applies to the standard options. Customised services may have different terms and conditions.

For assistance with choosing, or if the service does not meet your needs, please contact IT support.

In the event of changes that may affect the delivery of the service, or in the event of a change in the terms and conditions, as the requester, you shall be notified by UIT in good time.
