Client Management
Client management is a method for creating a more secure and up-to-date IT environment at Uppsala University. This service is supplied within the framework of the IT fee, and University IT Services (UIT) aims to client-manage all personal computers at the University.
As a user, client management makes it easier for you to work on your computer without having to think about issues relating to security settings and updates, managing hardware, operating systems, drivers and licences. Client management also relieves the burden on your operations management in respect of planning and issues related to computer finance, inventory and lifecycle management.
Windows 11
During the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025, Windows 11 will be gradually introduced on PC computers managed by UIT.
Useful information
Your computer may receive automatic updates. This will only happen when you received prior warning and a reminder that an update is needed. An automatic update will take place after a certain period of time if you have chosen not to act on a warning or reminder.

Get started quickly
Client-managed computers come prepared with all the settings and software needed to use the most common IT services at Uppsala University. Features such as printers, e-meetings, VPN and home directory storage are preinstalled and can be used directly at start-up.
Enhanced security
With client management, UIT can ensure that your computer is configured correctly so as to prevent IT incidents and other security incidents. Client management helps you to keep your computer’s operating system and software up to date and includes full virus protection. Some client platforms also have enhanced features to deal with the potential theft or loss of your computer.
Faster support
Client management helps users to get help quickly, as IT support already has everything it needs for troubleshooting or other interventions.
Easier software installations
You can quickly install new applications and order licences for specific software via the client platform portal preinstalled on your computer. Licence management for software installed via the portal is handled by UIT.
