Why choose Argos?

USB sticks, hard drives or the employee’s own computer are rarely secure enough places to store research data or other critical and sensitive information. Even when it comes to cloud services such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox, it is uncertain where the files are actually stored, who is responsible for operation and security of the system and how the cost develops over time. All of this leads to questions about what sort of material is suitable or even legal for storage in these solutions.

Home and group directories on UIT’s solution “Argos” give employees access to storage with a high level of security, modern file management tools and a centralised back-up solution. It is a university-run, safe and stable solution for storing and sharing files between employees, which also offers flexible opportunities for collaboration both within and outside of the university.

  • Legally secure: The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) makes great demands on how we handle information and data storage in our organisation. The home directory meets the vast majority of these requirements and regulations for data storage within government authorities and operations.
  • Safe operation: Data in home and group directories is saved in at least two physical locations, and you can restore material from several weeks ago. Having your files automatically backed up in several stages and in several copies in geographically separate server halls with high operational security significantly reduces the risk of data loss or theft.
  • Easily accessible: All full-time university staff with IT fee level “Employee Maxi” have free access to 100 gigabytes (GB) of storage space in the home directory (commercial services such as Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive usually offer considerably less storage space at no extra cost).
Data files saved in home and group directories can be automatically synchronised with your work computer and simultaneously accessed via a web interface and your work mobile phone.

If you or your organisation needs to, it is possible to increase your storage space for a fee. Find out more about increasing storage spaces here.

It is also possible to order shared storage areas where groups of employees can store, share and work on common material. Read more about the service and order your group directory here.
