Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Folders

Here you will find frequently asked questions and answers about personal folders.

Why should I store my files in personal or group folders?

Personal folders and group folders on UIT's "Argos" solution give the employee access to storage with a high level of security, modern file management tools and a centralized backup solution. It is a university-run, secure and stable solution for storing and sharing files between employees that also offers flexible opportunities for collaboration both within and outside the university.

Why UIT recommends personal and group folders on Argos.

The Division for University IT Services (UIT) is currently working to migrate users from previous storage solutions to a common solution for centrally managed personal folders.

Make sure you can log in to the web portal myfiles.uu.se. Once you have done this, you are ready to start using your personal folder according to the instructions below.

As your files are stored centrally, you can access them wherever you are: via myfiles.uu.se, via Filr for computer or mobile, or via a network-connected personal folder on your computer (however, the network folder requires you to be connected to the university network via a wired connection or WiFi on eduroam, or via a VPN connection).

When the device you want to use is not connected to the internet via the university network or VPN service, you can still access your personal folder via Filr or myfiles.uu.se.

How do I access and work with my files when I am offline?
To work with files when your device is offline, you need to make sure that the files you need are available on your device. You can download the relevant files from myfiles.uu.se before you disconnect your device, or sync your files to your computer via Filr. Note that it is not possible to work with files via a network-connected personal folder unless you are connected to the university network.

There are two ways to ensure your files are synced between your different devices – by installing Filr on both computers, or by connecting your personal folder to both computers.

In your web browser, go to myfiles.uu.se and log in with your university ID (AKKA ID) and password “A”. You can view your files directly in the browser or download them, view and/or edit them on your computer, and (if necessary) upload them to myfiles.uu.se again.

Windows users can restore files or folders via File Explorer. MacOS users need to contact IT Support to help in recovering lost material.

For major changes to the structure of your personal folder or group folder – for example, if you want to move large data sets or a large number of files and folders – you should do this using a network-connected personal folder, and not via Filr or myfiles.uu.se.

To order storage beyond the 100 GB included in the personal folder, you will need approval from your head of department (or equivalent manager), as it is your department (or equivalent) that pays for the storage. The maximum size of a personal folder is 512 GB. If you have additional needs, a so-called shared storage space is recommended.
