If you change your name, you must contact the catalog administrator at your department. The department is responsible for registering and updacting names and email addresses in Uppsala University's directory.

What Happens to My Old Email Address When the Catalog Administrator Makes a Change?

Depending on whether the department uses the common email service or not, the processes will differ.

  • If the old email address is managed by the university's common email server, the old address will function for an additional year.
  • If the old email address is not managed by the university's common email server, the old email address will function until it is removed by the administrator of the email server where the address is hosted. Any out-of-office messages and forwarding settings are also managed by the administrator of the respective email server.

When Does the Email Address Change?

  • If the email address was managed by the university's common email server, the new email address will function automatically within an hour after the change is made.
  • If the email address is not managed by the university's common email server, the new address will start functioning only after it is set up by the administrator of the email server managing the email address. Settings such as forwarding, spam filtering, and out-of-office messages are also managed by the administrator of the respective email server.
